IN’ARI
In’ari are Dimmed beings of Iraya formed when a demon’s Essence loses the ability to maintain cohesion, unraveling under pressures that were once held in place. In a realm defined by beauty, symmetry, and illusion-woven harmony, this form of Dimming does not manifest through visible rot or obvious corruption, but through subtle misalignment.
They appear wholly normal at first glance. Their forms remain refined, beautiful, and fully physical, capable of passing among Irayans without immediate suspicion. They do not cast illusions and show no outward monstrous traits. Only careful attention reveals what is wrong: a gaze that lands slightly off, an expression that settles too late, a stillness that feels too controlled, or clothing that moves just out of step with the world around them.
In’ari do not manipulate minds or emotions. They expose and destabilize what is already under pressure. Through proximity, they begin a staged unraveling that fractures illusion, identity, and internal stability over time. They mark, withdraw, and return when collapse nears, feeding not on flesh but on the collapse event itself — the moment something held together can no longer do so.
Their presence leaves localized Unravel Zones where Iraya’s natural harmony begins to fail. Velinna Blooms lose symmetry, reflections shift out of alignment, and the precision of the realm starts to loosen. For this reason, In’ari are treated as ecosystem-level threats within Iraya. The Ember Guard seek out and restore these zones, while the realm’s silver lynx-like predators hunt the In’ari directly before their instability can spread.

In’ari function as destabilizers within Iraya. Their presence creates Unravel Zones where the realm’s natural harmony begins to fail, weakening the cohesion of illusion, structure, and selfhood.
Velinna Blooms are often the first visible indicators. Petal symmetry breaks, silver vein patterns misalign, and reflection surfaces begin to shift where they should remain still.
They cannot be fully eradicated, as demons will inevitably fall into Dimming when their Essence is not properly maintained. For this reason, the Ember Guard actively seek out Unravel Zones and work to restore stability before collapse spreads.
In’ari hunt through staged exposure rather than pursuit. They draw near briefly, mark a target through proximity, then withdraw while unraveling continues without them. Most victims remain unaware unless highly self-aware or especially sensitive to Essence. The In’ari returns when collapse is closer and feeds when identity, illusion, or internal stability finally gives way.
