Shaedrin

Shaedrin are Vitalis-born entities of Iraya, created by Empress Elysande to preserve balance between truth and illusion. They do not exist as fixed physical beings, but as living distortions of perception, visible only through the way light fractures, reflections misalign, and reality bends around them.

In their true state, Shaedrin are incomplete and shifting, neither fully present nor entirely absent. What appears is not the being itself, but the world reacting to it, as if perception cannot settle on a single truth. When they choose to communicate directly, they may stabilize into a constructed humanoid form, though this is only a temporary manifestation and not their natural state.

Bound to their original purpose, the Shaedrin serve Iraya by reporting the state of the realm to its ruler. They perceive imbalance, distortion, and shifts in truth across Iraya and, at times, beyond it, carrying that knowledge through presence, manifestation, and direct communication.

Though not hostile by nature, Shaedrin are deeply unsettling to encounter. They are not illusions themselves, but the keepers of the boundary where illusion must remain in service to truth.

ECOSYSTEM ROLE

Shaedrin are not fauna and do not occupy a natural predator or prey role within Iraya. They function instead as realm-bound regulators of perception, preserving the balance between illusion and truth where Iraya’s nature might otherwise drift into distortion.

They also serve as reporting entities to the ruler of Iraya, carrying awareness of imbalance, instability, and significant shifts within the realm. Their presence is tied not to territory or migration, but to places, events, and conditions where perception itself begins to slip.

When Imbalance affects them, the Shaedrin do not become a different species. They remain what they were created to be, but misaligned, with illusion overtaking truth and destabilizing the purpose they were formed to uphold.

BEHAVIOR

Calm, observant, and highly aware of distortion within Iraya. Shaedrin do not behave like territorial creatures; they manifest where truth is threatened, where perception destabilizes, or where their reporting function is required.
