THE FIRST SHIFTERS
Among the Fallen were those who had once borne the gifted bloodline of fluid transformation, Angels who had possessed both wings and the ability to shift freely into many animal forms.
When they were cast from Heaven, they lost more than their place. Their wings were taken, and with them the fullness of what their bloodline had once allowed.
No longer could they move between many forms. What remained to them was only the last shape they had worn. It was the final remnant of what they had been.
Unlike others among the Fallen, these did not become Shadows and embrace the Curse. Neither did they become Watchers and wait in stillness for the promised Savior.
Instead, they chose another way. They built lives upon the earth, gathered into packs, joined themselves to humankind, and forged identity out of what remained to them.
Through bloodline and inheritance, the single retained form endured across generations. Yet the memory of its origin did not. Most earthly shifters now carry the gift without knowledge of the angelic lineage from which it came.
