VARIANT
Variants are Dimmed manifestations found in Zoah, formed when bleeding essence from the Pit finds a weakened host and reshapes it. They are not native forms of the realm, but altered expressions of Dimmed patterns once contained below, forced into Zoahan bodies through intrusion rather than internal corruption.
The host body remains recognizably Zoahan in structure, but the invading essence determines behavior, instability, and outward expression. Some Variants resemble known Dimmed forms, while others emerge as blended manifestations carrying traits that do not fully resolve into any single origin.
In Zoah, Dimming does not always begin from within. It can arrive through prolonged exposure to thinning zones, unstable Essence, or residual bleed escaping what the Pit continues to hold. When that intrusion takes root, the host is reshaped into something no longer fully itself.
Variants are rare, but they are treated as high-risk manifestations wherever they appear. Their existence is one of the clearest signs that containment has failed somewhere it should have held.

Variants are not part of Zoah’s natural fauna system. They are breach manifestations caused by essence bleed from the Pit and are treated as signs of containment failure rather than stable ecological entities.
Their appearance indicates that residual corruption has found a viable host. In severe cases, blended variants may emerge when multiple Dimmed essences take hold at once, producing unstable expressions that are difficult to classify cleanly.
Because new instances may form whenever Essence is not properly maintained, Variants cannot be fully eradicated from Zoah. They can only be contained, tracked, and destroyed as they emerge.
Behavior depends on the invading Dimmed essence rather than the host body. Some variants display recognizable instincts tied to a single source pattern, while blended variants may shift unpredictably between conflicting drives.
