SHAYLEN AUM
Shaylen Aum is the primary structural Aum of Iraya, recognized by its twisted, sculptural trunk, broad balanced canopy, and the quiet steadiness of its silhouette across the realm’s open terrain. It shapes grove systems, defines distant landscape rhythm, and supports both avian nesting and pollinator activity throughout Iraya.
Though visually elegant, Shaylen Aum is also one of the realm’s practical flora. Its hardened pods contain oil-rich seeds that are dried, opened, and pressed into a smooth golden oil valued for preservation, cultural preparation, and trade. Like much of Iraya, its beauty is inseparable from its function.
FIELD RECORD
Native Aum species of Iraya.
Iraya
Flora
- Twisted, sculptural trunk and branching structure
- Broad canopy with soft green leaves carrying silver undertones
- Smooth aged bark with gentle tonal variation
- Distinct silhouette visible across open terrain
- Produces hardened pods containing oil-rich seeds
Shaylen Aum grows in scattered groves and open terrain, shaping much of Iraya’s arboreal structure and forming stable habitat zones across the realm.
Its pods are gathered, dried, and opened to access seeds that are pressed into a smooth golden oil used for preservation, skin care, cultural preparation practices, and trade.
Pods are collected when mature and dried before processing. Harvest is determined by pod readiness and grove health rather than by a narrow seasonal window.
Most often found across open plains, grove clusters, elevated ridges, and areas surrounding reflective pool systems throughout Iraya.
ARCHIVAL NOTE
Shaylen Aum is easier to recognize from a distance than up close. Its shape holds steady against the horizon—twisted, grounded, unmistakable—while its canopy and branch depth often feel less certain once approached beneath shifting light.
Even so, there is nothing unstable about it. Shaylen Aum remains one of the clearest examples of Iraya’s balance between elegance and utility: an Aum that defines the land visually while also providing one of its most practical harvest resources.
