THE BIRTH OF THE SHAEDREN
When Iraya was still whole, Queen Elysande sought to create guardians who could move between what was seen and what was hidden.
Drawing upon Vitalis, the ancient force from which life and continuity flow, Queen Elysande poured that power into the crystal pools scattered throughout the Veiled Gardens of her palace.
As her Vitalis touched the mirrored waters, it fractured into light and shadow. From those fractures, the Shaedren were born.
They were not shaped of flesh, but of reflected essence— living embodiments of paradox, half being and half mirage.
The Shaedren were gifted the power to walk between truth and illusion, to disguise reality, bend perception, and mirror the intent of those they served. Their eyes shimmered with shifting hues, reflecting the emotions of those who looked upon them.
Elysande bound them with a single vow written in her own lifeblood:
“Guard Iraya’s truth. Let illusion serve wisdom, not deceit.”
After the Absence, the Shaedren remained without their queen. In time, many fractured in purpose. Their mirrored nature split, and illusion consumed truth.
Some were corrupted into twisted reflections of what they had once been, while others remained loyal and continue to await the return of their Empress.
