RECORD SUMMARY

Seth is one of those males who makes “effortless” look unfair.

He walks into a room like he has nowhere to be in a hurry, like nothing in the world could possibly rattle him, and somehow that is exactly what makes people watch him harder.

Relaxed posture. Easy smile. Usually a smirk somewhere in the mix. The kind of face that looks a little too calm for someone with this much damage potential.

Which, for the record, is misleading.

Because underneath all that charm is a warrior dangerous enough that most of what matters about him has been buried under restricted clearance and black bars.

I know better than to pretend that means nothing.

Seth fights with the kind of control that makes it obvious he was trained to end things quickly. No wasted motion. No panic. Just precision. He moves like he already knows where everyone around him is going to be a second before they get there.

It would be more unsettling if he didn’t also act like the most low-maintenance male in the room.

He likes to run, which apparently is how he clears his head when he’s trying not to stab anyone. He plays piano too, and unfortunately he’s good enough at it to make people go quiet when he starts. There’s something unfair about a warrior built like also being able to sit down at a piano and make it sound like he was born there.

He has a life in Oakland that looks a lot more ordinary on paper than it actually is. Still, I’m not stupid enough to write everything I know in an archive file where other people can read it.

What I can say is that Seth has a sense of humor about almost everything, including things that probably should not be funny.

Like the time I accidentally set him on fire.

Before anyone panics, he lived. Obviously. His pride may have suffered more than the rest of him, and I still maintain the circumstances were not entirely my fault.

He disagrees.

Actually, no. That’s not true. He mostly laughs about it now, which is annoying because it means he enjoys bringing it up whenever he thinks I’m getting too confident.

That’s kind of Seth in general. He has this way of staying light without being shallow. Easygoing without being careless. Funny without ever losing track of what is happening around him.

And even with all the redactions, the truth still shows through in pieces.

He watches more than he says.

He notices more than people realize.

And for someone who acts like he’s all smooth edges and good music, there’s something heavier underneath him all the time. Something disciplined. Guarded. Old.

A lot of this record is restricted for a reason.

Some of it protects operational details. Some of it protects other people. And some of it, I think, protects Seth himself.

Which probably means I’ve already said more than I’m supposed to.

So I’ll leave it here: if Seth likes you, you’ll know. He’ll tease you, smirk at you, and act like nothing matters very much.

And if he cares about you?

That’s when you should start paying attention.
